key dichotomies

Dichotomies considered

The following dichotomies each represent issues for considerations when establishing and nurturing a virtual network of loosely coupled actors. At least, those are the aspects treated in my thesis (PDF, 4MB)(in Danish).

CSCW - CSSN (MUVE)
structural hole – social capital
exploitation – exploration
product – process
cooperation (articulation work) – collaboration

--- o ---

planning – play&improvization
clear purpose – non-identified ignorence
rules/procedure – trust/confidence

--- o ---

explicit/written – tacit/verbal
asynchronous/off-line – synchronous/online

--- o ---

virtual – real
distant/Face2Interface – on-site/Face2Face

--- o ---

individual – collective

--- o ---

intra-group – inter-group
relational – structural embeddedness

Research interest

In short, based on network theory and the technology-organization relationship, this section is based on my original research (master thesis) examing how ICT can support the collaboration between loosely coupled actors in a virtual research network.

From that point of departure I have broadened my field of interest to include most aspects of technology supported (groupware, social software, mobile technologies) knowledge enabling and learning. Recently this has furthermore developed into an interest for pervasive e-learning.
